Epson F2100 Printer Review

Epson F2100 DTG printer claims to be the most reliable, robust, and fastest within the 12K ~20K DTG printer market, but does it live up to its hype? In our Epson F2100 review, we’ll provide everything you need to know about whether or not it’s worth purchasing. We’ll cover the features you’ll need to know about this model.

High Print Quality

The Epson F2100 uses UltraChrome DG Ink with PrecisionCore TFP printhead for High-Quality Direct-to-Garment Printing. It has 5 Ink Configuration (CMYKW) that provide durable, safe, and vibrant colors. Your customers will enjoy the amazing look and feel of the ink on the material!

Printing Speed up to Twice as Fast

Printing just got faster with the Epson F2100. It has up to 720 nozzles per inch dedicated to color inks with 1,440 nozzles per inch dedicated to white inks. This makes it one of the fastest Direct-to-Garment machines in its class and price point! You can choose your print speed based on the six quality settings from within its Garment Creator or the Kothari Print Pro RIP Software.

Unmatched Highlight White Ink Mode

The highlight white ink mode of the Epson F2100 allows for simultaneous printing of wite and color inks on the color pass. Hence, you can skip the step of printing a base white mode first then doing another pass with the color. You are guaranteed to notice great improvements with your image quality, speed, and efficiency.

Is it Worth the Price Tag?

Every time a new printer gets released, there’s an instant buzz about it. Most of these printers are expensive, with sky-high price tags attached to them. However, there is a small segment of printers that fall into what many people consider a more reasonable price range—and Epson has always been at the forefront of these types of devices.

The Epson 2100 is a high-performing printer for DTG printing with exceptional reliability. It comes with a large-capacity 600 ml individual ink cartridges per color for a low cost-per-ml. You'll get great printer pricing for a faster return-on-investment! Additionally, Epson offers customers with 5+ Epson F2100 printers bid pricing on their ink cartridges amounting to a significant discount in the cost for your operation.

User Experience

What’s in it for us? While a printer may seem like a simple device that just spits out words on paper, those who have used them will tell you they can be quite complicated. When it comes to purchasing a new one, there are many things to consider: Print quality, print speed, ink costs and ease of use are all factors you should weigh before committing to a specific model.

Easy to Operate and Maintain for Reduced Downtime

The Epson F2100 was designed with also the operator in mind. An improved Epson Garment Creator Software is available for operating systems such as macOS and Windows which includes all the tools you'll need for layout, text, color management, ink control, cost estimation, and hot folders. It's also equipped with an easy-to-use grip pad for fast loading.

For maintenance, the Epson F2100 makes use of a fabric wiper and a built-in ink cartridge system. Its integrated self-cleaning system means you won't have to perform daily maintenance. Operators can begin the day by pressing the power button and they'll be ready to print in just a few minutes. Then, they can just press the power button again at the end of the day. You are only required to do a one-minute weekly maintenance to maintain a clean capping system. What a hassle-free maintenance process!

What's the catch?

The product dimensions are 985‎ x 1,425 x 490 mm (Width x Depth x Height) and it weighs 80 kg. Make sure you have enough space for it in addition to your other equipment. After all, it takes space to handle professional direct-to-garment operations safely and efficiently.

For its price point, you have to consider you can achieve your Return on investment (ROI) at a reasonable time. Once you understand the costs associated with it, you have to be able to charge prices accordingly.

Since Direct-to-Garment printing requires pretreatment, a lot find this process to be a learning curve. You should know that a lot of time has to be spent on learning how to manage the different variables associated with printing whether its pretreatment, graphics design, resolution, and file types. Assess your existing knowledge on this and manage your expectations when you get to the printing stage.

You can print on all kinds of material but the longevity of the print is not always assured. DTG ink chemistry works best with 100% cotton and high cotton textiles but it won't work as well as with 100% polyester without extra work put into it.

Tips to Get Great Prints with Your Epson F2100

Make the most out of your printer with these tips to get great prints every time.

  • Get good quality garments. With Direct-to-Garment printing, you'll get the best prints with 100% cotton shirts. The best type to use would be ring-spun cotton shirts since those are more durable and soft compared to regular ones.

  • Put in enough pre-treatment. Assuring print quality begins at the pretreat phase. Your pretreatment process and pretreatment machine specifications determine the vibrance or opacity of your designs. The amount of pretreatment to apply are to be considered based on the garment color, composition of the garment, and method for application.

  • Clean your pretreat machine with a cleaning solution so it won't clog up. When it does, the print may come out uneven. You can also upgrade to a pretreat machine that has a self-cleaning feature.

  • Gently shake the white ink cartridge at the start of every working day. Pigment particles in the cartridges can settle which may cause print quality to go down and for the printer to malfunction.
