Clamshell, swing away, auto, and multi-station
Clamshell presses open like a book and use the least bench space, which suits flat garment work in tight shops. Swing away presses move the upper platen clear of the lower one, giving room to lay out thick or awkward items and applying pressure straight down instead of at an angle. Auto and air presses such as the DTF Station Prisma Auto open on their own and hold set pressure without operator effort, which starts to matter at a few hundred pieces a day. Multi-station presses like the Prisma Hex let one operator load one station while another presses.
Sublimation, DTF, HTV, and screen print transfers
A sublimation heat press needs stable high heat, usually around 385 to 400F, with firm even pressure across the full platen. DTF transfers press cooler and shorter, generally near 305 to 320F. HTV and screen print transfers fall between the two. Most quality presses handle all four, and the deciding factor is whether pressure and temperature stay consistent corner to corner, since that determines if the edges of a large transfer adhere as well as the center.
