What materials can the xTool P3 cut and engrave?

The P3 works with 300+ materials including wood, plywood, MDF, acrylic (including clear), leather, fabric, paper, cardboard, rubber, cork, and glass. Because it's a CO2 laser, it can cut and engrave transparent materials that diode lasers can't touch. With the optional 5W IR module, you can also engrave stainless steel, aluminum, and coated metals.

What's the maximum cutting thickness?

The xTool P3 cuts up to 20mm (¾") hardwood and 25mm (1") acrylic in a single pass. For reference, most entry-level desktop lasers max out around 6-10mm. The 80W CO2 laser delivers significantly more power for cleaner cuts through thick materials.

How big is the work area?

The bed measures 36" × 18" (914mm × 457mm) - over twice the size of most desktop lasers in this category. This means you can cut large signage, furniture panels, or full material sheets without tiling multiple cuts together.

How does it compare to Glowforge Pro or Aura?

The P3 offers a substantially larger work area (36" × 18" vs. Glowforge Pro's 19.5" × 11"), more power (80W vs. 45W), and greater cutting depth. The ACS™ automation also provides true hands-off operation, with automatic positioning, focusing, and height adjustment rather than requiring manual calibration. For production-focused businesses, the P3 is designed to scale with you.

What does the automation actually do?

The ACS™ (Automated Creation System) handles three things automatically: (1) the 16MP SkyView camera detects your material and positions your design with 0.0079" precision, (2) the LiDAR system measures distance and sets perfect focus, and (3) the AutoLift Base adjusts to accommodate objects up to 8.66" tall. You place your material, close the lid, and press start. That's it.

How fast is it?

The P3 reaches 1,200 mm/s with 20,000 mm/s² acceleration, making it the fastest desktop laser cutter in the 80W class. For batch production, Smart Nesting optimizes layouts for 98.7% material utilization, and Batch Fill lets you process multiple items without jigs.

Is it safe to operate?

Yes. The P3 has a certified Class 1 laser safety rating, the highest classification. It achieves this through 8 infrared flame sensors, real-time temperature monitoring, dual-side cameras with vision algorithms, and a built-in CO2 fire suppression cylinder. You can run jobs with confidence.

What's required for ventilation?

The P3 includes the IF2 2.0 Inline Fan for exhaust. You'll need to vent outside through a window or wall, or you can add the AP2 Max Air Purifier for fully filtered indoor operation without external venting.

How long does the laser tube last?

The CO2 laser tube is rated for 10,000+ hours of operation. At typical usage rates, that's years of daily production before replacement is needed.

Is financing available?

How big is the machine itself? Will it fit my space?

The P3 measures approximately 51" × 30" × 20" (LxWxH). It requires a sturdy table or the optional Mobile Work Stand. You'll also need clearance for ventilation ducting and lid opening. It's a production machine, but it's designed for shop environments, not industrial warehouse floors.

Do I need prior laser experience?
