Garment Printing Tips You Need To know!

3 Garment Printing Tips You Should Know

“Learn from the mistakes of others. You can't make them all yourself.”

- Usher

Nobody starts off as a professional in anything. It’s a reassuring thought that we all start off on the same foot when it comes to skill level and there’s nothing wrong with taking time to find success in one’s endeavors. As a wise dog once said, “Sucking at something is the first step at being sorta good at something.” But what is the next step in finding success? No matter the endeavor, it is always a good idea to learn from those with experience. Luckily, we’ve had the chance to speak with top professionals in the printing world and picked their brains for some of the best tips for success in this ever changing industry. One blog couldn’t possibly contain all the wisdom they had to share, so check them out in our YouTube videos to the sides! In the meantime, here are some of the top pointers from printing professionals.

1. Garments With Printing Mistakes Can Still Be Saved!

This useful bit of information comes from none other than the owner of Key Print Co, Leo Martinez. Mr. Martinez claims that while DTG printing, black garments that have a smudge somewhere due to a printing error can still be saved as long as they have not been cured yet. So hold off on the curing process, grab a q-tip with a little bit of water and get scrubbing. Saving every last garment may not seem like the biggest game changer but it will save you money in the long run. So be sure not to prematurely trash your garments!

2.  Find Your Niche and Target Audience!

Nobody has ever made a name for themselves by being just sort of good at a lot of different things. If you really want to find success, you have to find what makes yourself unique and use that as your jumping off point. Kristy Spears from Crafts By Doney offered her insights into success and suggested that targeted marketing and finding one’s niche are surefire ways to move forward in the industry. As such, Kristy has found some success by creating products that are specifically catered towards pet owners. Your target audience could consist of sports fans, little leaguers, car enthusiasts, your local place of worship, or even weird Disney adults, but it's up to you to make yourself known in those circles. Social media and custom websites are great ways to put yourself out there. So find a niche and target audience that you’re passionate about and don’t be afraid to make some waves.

3.  Prioritize Quality Over Everything!

Matthew Rhome, the inventor of the direct to garment printer has a very simple secret to his success. Quality over everything. With this in mind, it's important to remind ourselves of the words of a deranged man, “Better ingredients. Better Pizza. Papa John’s.” Or as Matthew Rhome put it, “Good pretreat makes good shirts. Bad pretreat makes bad shirts.” Quality products are produced from quality ingredients and as such, budding entrepreneurs shouldn’t shy away from investing in themselves and their products. So believe in yourself and know that the time, money and effort that you put into your work will shine through in your products. Just make sure to never forget the age old saying, “Scared money don’t make no money.”

The wealth of knowledge and advice from these printing professionals is vast and couldn’t possibly be contained in this one blog.
