The platen guard has a feature which is called a photo-eye that will distinguish when your flash is in the cure position. As soon as the curing is detected the PlatenGuard starts its 60-second countdown. If your flash is still in the curing position after 60 seconds, the Platen Guard steps in and shuts down power to your flash while sounding an audible alarm to alert the user.
